Risky Business: Statins linked with risk of musculoskeletal injury.
Using statins may be associated with musculoskeletal conditions, arthropathies (joint diseases) and injuries, according to areport published by JAMA this week. It wasn’t that long ago that statins were under the microscope:Severe Rhabdomyolysis Associated with the Cerivastatin-Gemfibrozil CombinationTherapy and we started to critically look at the long term benefits vs. the risks for the class.
 
While statins effectively lower cardiovascular illnesses and death, the full spectrum of statin musculoskeletal AEs is unknown.

This week I received a photo of a Chinese police officer amongst a huge pile of counterfeit drugs. This shows only a fraction of the fake medications that have been seized in Beijing in the past few months. China is the biggest source of counterfeit medications that have absolutely flooded the internet in recent years and pharmaceutical experts say that "the illicit trade is now believed to be worth$75 billion globally."
